Introduction to media process and technical skills
FURNITURE MODELLING IN BLENDER
The processes of creating 3D furniture in Blender included:
Gathering images of furniture to add to a mood board
using Blender to create the furniture
Use Blender to add colour and materials to our furniture
Render images of all our furniture in a scene

We used Blender to construct our furniture models by creating simple 3D shapes and building them into bigger more complicated shapes. We had to ensure that the proportions of the shapes were correct and realistic. We used tools such as bevel, loop cut and the extrusion tool to make our objects convincible pieces of furniture.

We also used Blender to add colour and material to our objects. This was the final step in bringing our furniture to life. Doing this meant that we had to consider what materials are commonly used when creating furniture, we had to look at the proportions of the patterns and decide what size was best for the item and scale it accordingly.

In this lesson I was to create a 3D model of a lounge and colour it using Blender. This went well for me as I was able to learn many new skills and follow Geo’s guidance well. After coming across a few challenges and being able to overcome them, this strengthened my confidence with the software, as I am now able to create basic 3D shapes and edit them to my desirability and preference. I was able to do this because I asked for help when I needed it and was sure to write down notes on things that were new to me, to help me better my understanding at a later date.
During this lesson I did face a few issues with the shape of my some of my models for example, my wardrobe, this wasn’t a perfect net and therefore had a vector issue, which made it hard for me follow the next steps, not to mention, my wardrobe was wonky. I then had to ask for help and was shown a way to correct the mistakes I had made. Because of this I fell behind the rest of the class in my development of the lounge, meaning that I had to top and ask for help, potentially hindering the development of the rest of the group. This slightly knocked my confidence as I didn’t want to appear as the less abled member of the group. In the future ill be aware that I will need help, especially when learning something new and that its okay to be unsure and ask for help when facing something I’m unsure of; I shouldn’t be disheartened as asking for help will help me to progress.
When falling behind I was able to catchup really easily and understand where and why I made a mistake, so that I won’t make it again in the future , or if I do, I know how to correct it. I found the modelling itself quite interesting, the development process. I find it quite fascinating that you can use this software to design interior furniture potentially sell it. It’d be cool to animate a scene using this software and have those characters come to be real live people for the rest of the movie .

ALIEN PROJECT
In this lesson we had to use new software to animate Alien characters and make a UFO. I found that this lesson was a lot more straightforward than the last, however I did find that I came across a few technical problems in terms of rendering and getting the placement of the face on the character correct. This happened because the nodes were not lined up correctly. I then faced some issues getting my substance painter to load, the computers in the classroom were not allowing me to access the software to complete my task. I ended up having to use a template from Geo, rather than this being my own work. Because of this template I was able to continue with the rest of the lesson and work on putting the alien in view with the UFO.

Because I had trouble with the computers this meant that I couldn’t use the UFO I had originally designed. This frustrated me because I worked hard on creating a UFO in Blenderand because of technical issues I couldn’t make this project my own. This is an ongoing problem that hasn’t currently been resolved, making me apprehensive about projects in the future, will my work get lost every time? The problem couldn’t be resolved by myself as I had saved the latest versions, it was the computer itself that wouldn’t allow
Substance Painter to run so that I could add texture to my UFO.

after effects work
We found out different types of forms of video, this was something that I found quite interesting, video is typically in and MP4 format whereas audio is MP3 we had to take note of this when converting our animated videos into Blender. This was important as I know which format video should be in when making video files in the future.
For this portion of the course I am unable to present the AfterEffects work I completed in class for our promotion videos. However, I am able to present some AfterEffects work that I have completed in my own time; using the skills I have learnt in class and further research to do create a portion of a lyric video for an original song that I have created.
character illustration- potential plus project
For this project, we had to design illustrated characters based on the character profiles we were given for the Potential Plus UK charity. We had to ensure we gathered enough research on the company to be able to complete the campaign to the best of our ability, we had to look at ways that we could get our work across to members of the public in the most effective way and think about how our work will represent the charity and what it stands for.
It was important for us to think about colours and the style of illustrations that we created the characters in. This is because we had to ensure we met and engaged with the correct audience.
