proposal

I would like my animation to represent the hardships of this year and the affects it has had on the globe. The COVID pandemic has shaken the world and has caused heartache and bereavement for millions of people, however we have been lucky enough to find real life heroes within all this tragedy. Critical workers, doctors, nurses, hospital staff, teachers, bus drivers, supermarket workers have all made sacrifices and have put their safety at risk to help the rest of society and make sure things have some level of normality even if it is was something we take for granted like being able to get the bus to the supermarket to get the essentials we need. We’ve had volunteers that helped us stay connected with the elderly by sending or delivering groceries or calling those that are lonely.  I wish to represent those people that given their time or put themselves on the frontline, nobly, to help others and keep the nation moving forward. The efforts of those on the frontline have been massively underappreciated and disregarded by our neglecting government and therefore I would like to highlight this in my animation also.

The brief was to create a hero that was engaging and interesting animation, I will do this by adding appeal to my character and giving them admirable qualities. The character also has to wear a mask and during the pandemic, masks have been a necessity; a mask that covers the nose and mouth will be paramount to the design of my character. My character will be based around my mum, who is a theatre nurse at Manchester Royal Children’ Hospital, her work ethic and compassion will be my muse for the piece I create. The message I would like to get across is that anyone can be a hero, they are hidden in plain sight all around us, even you can be a hero by thinking about others and showing compassion and consideration in everyday life.

I have not yet come up with a name for my hero, however, she will be female and the colour palette will be light blue, reminiscent of a hospital gown, with striking, contrasting colours such as yellow and red. Not only will these colours be engaging but they are also traditional colours of classic heroes such as superman and wonder woman.

I will attempt to create my own pieces of foley art for my piece, including the sound of creeping feet, whooshing and landing. I will also aim to add dialogue to my piece and use a Kevin Macleod audio at the beginning and potentially the end of my piece, to start and conclude the sequence.

My target audience will be aimed at children and young adults as they have been branded as the ‘super spreaders’ but yet the least vulnerable, therefore I think they will benefit from seeing ways as to which they can be heroes and help society in small but effective ways. I believe my idea will be suitable as the topic is relevant and could be used the potential for ads or an infomercial in schools.
